The Emergency Department (ED) is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by emergency medicine-trained physicians, nurses and staff. Our goal is to provide high-quality, compassionate treatment in a timely manner. Our hospital is on the cutting edge of technology and equipment to ensure we can provide the most advanced care for our patients.

Aiken Regional is a certified Primary Heart Attack Center, a certified Primary Stroke Center, and a designated Level IV Trauma Center.

Heart Attack Care

Our Emergency Department physicians are board-certified in emergency medicine and follow national guidelines to provide heart attack and stroke patients with the right treatments, right away.

Aiken Regional is also certified as a Primary Heart Attack Center (PHAC) by the Joint Commission and American Heart Association® (AHA). The certification recognizes the hospital’s dedication to providing superior cardiac care to the Aiken community.

Stroke Care

Aiken Regional is a certified Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission. This means it has been recognized for meeting standards that foster better outcomes for stroke care.

Trauma Care

Aiken Regional Medical Centers is a Level IV Trauma Center, designated by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. As a Level IV Trauma Center, hospital staff are able to provide advanced trauma life support (ATLS), which includes evaluation, stabilization and diagnostic capabilities for injured patients. Aiken Regional has an organized team of trauma surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, trauma-trained nurses, anesthesiologists and operating room personnel available 24 hours a day, seven days week to evaluate and treat any injury.

Aiken Regional now joins a Trauma System of facilities that provides a spectrum of care to injured patients to include collaboration with EMS agencies throughout the region and with other Trauma Centers in the event a patient may need to be transferred to or from another facility to receive a higher level of comprehensive care.
