Volunteering Offers Something for Everyone
Volunteers at Aiken Regional Medical Centers are part of the Hospital Auxiliary of Aiken County, Inc. The Auxiliary began in 1928 when the Women’s Auxiliary Aid Society was formed to support operations at the first general hospital in Aiken. The current Auxiliary was incorporated in 1975 and has since played a vital role at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. The Hospital Auxiliary of Aiken County, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3.
As a non-profit agency, the Auxiliary donates its time by way of volunteers, and provides healthcare scholarships to residents of Aiken, Barnwell and Edgefield Counties who are enrolled as students at the University of South Carolina Aiken or Aiken Technical College. The endowment is funded by income from an endowment established years ago and profits from the hospital Gift Shop. The volunteers are an important part of the hospital family, donating their time and talents and working closely with the staff to make a hospital stay more comfortable for patients and their families.
Areas where volunteers are needed at Aiken Regional include the following:
- Cardiovascular care
- Emergency Department
- Gift Shop
- Information Desk
- Outpatient Registration
- Radio response team
- Surgery waiting room
