A Highly Trained Staff
A seasoned team of heart specialists and thoracic surgery specialists combine their expertise to work toward the best possible outcome for each patient, all while providing them with a caring, supportive atmosphere. The Cardiovascular Institute’s clinical staff takes steps to make sure each patient is consistently informed, explaining procedures like catheterization, echocardiography, metabolic stress testing, thrombolytic therapy and open-heart surgery.
Emergency Department physicians are board-certified in emergency medicine and follow national guidelines to provide heart attack and stroke patients with the right treatments, right away.
The Cardiovascular Institute of Carolina’s two catheterization labs allow physicians to treat more patients with heart attacks, stroke and vascular disease, while shortening procedure time. Advanced imaging technology produces clearer, more detailed images, making it easier for doctors to diagnose patients and perform interventional procedures quickly and accurately. The Cardiovascular Institute can:
- Diagnose and open blocked blood vessels
- Install endovascular stent grafts
- Implant pacemakers and biventricular assist devices
- Repair atrial septal defects
Door-to-Balloon (D2B) Time
ARMC participates in the American College of Cardiology's (ACC) D2B (Door to Balloon) Alliance™. D2B is a best-practice guideline for patients having a heart attack. ACC developed the D2B initiative to decrease the time it takes to restore blood flow to the heart of an emergency room patient who arrives with chest pain. We continue to work with state and local groups on ways to transmit EKGs from ambulances en route to the hospital, so that staff and physicians are prepared before the patient arrives. To ensure swift emergency cardiac care, we focus on shortening the time between a patient’s arrival and artery-clearing balloon angioplasty. We consistently achieve D2B times of less than 60 minutes, far faster than the national standard of 90 minutes.
