Aiken Regional to Honor and Recognize Nurses with The DAISY Award
Nurses at Aiken Regional Medical Centers will be honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®. The award is part of The DAISY Foundation's mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate care nurses provide patients and families every day. Aiken Regional is proud to support the award and invites the community to participate in the nomination process.
Nurses may be nominated by anyone — patients, guests, families and colleagues. Award recipients are chosen by a committee at Aiken Regional to receive The DAISY Award. Awards are presented throughout the year at celebrations attended by the honoree’s colleagues, patients and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate commending her/him as an "Extraordinary Nurse." Honorees also receive a DAISY Award pin and a sculpture called ‘A Healer’s Touch’ hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.

“It takes an extraordinary person with a compassionate heart to be a nurse,” said Jim O’Loughlin, Chief Executive Officer at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. “It’s our goal to continue to uplift and show appreciation for our amazing team of nurses. The DAISY Award provides a well-known platform to recognize the astounding care nurses provide on a daily basis for our community and throughout our hospital.”
“We’re excited to offer this nationally recognized program as another way to honor our nursing team,” said Virginia Hawkins, chief nursing officer at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. “We will continue to recognize outstanding nurses on a monthly basis during our Service Excellence Awards, selected by employees. However, by adding The DAISY Award, we’re able to extend the opportunity for patients and community members to nominate an extraordinary nurse."
This is one of the many initiatives presented by The DAISY Foundation to express gratitude to the nursing profession. Additionally, DAISY offers J. Patrick Barnes Grants for Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Projects; The DAISY Faculty Award to honor inspiring faculty members in schools and colleges of nursing and The DAISY in Training Award for nursing students.
