A happy and healthy New Year to you and your loved ones from all of us here at Aiken Regional! February is a special time of year for our WE sisterhood. It’s American Heart Month, a time when we encourage all women to “Go Red” and take a stand against heart disease. “Go Red For Women” was created by the American Heart Association to encourage awareness of women and heart disease, and give them the tools they need to lead a heart healthy life.
February also marks the second anniversary of our ever-popular WE program. Now that we’re 1,600 members strong, 2014 will be even bigger! As you’ll see, WE is hosting some exciting events in the next few months, including the 3rd Annual Oyster Roast on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Proceeds from the event help to provide local women with free screening mammograms through the Best Chance Network and the Savannah River Cancer Foundation.
If you haven’t yet joined WE, sign up today! We look forward to seeing you at the 3rd Annual Oyster Roast, as well as the other exciting WE activities we have planned this winter.
Yours in sisterhood,
Women’s Services Director
Let's take women's health to heart
Heart disease is the No.1 killer in America. And, although an astonishing 80 percent of middle-aged women have one or more of the risk factors that lead to heart disease, most are unaware of their risks, and they also have limited knowledge of the symptoms of heart disease.
Aiken Regional is proud to partner with The Heart Truth,™ a national campaign from the National Institutes of Health that seeks to increase awareness of women’s risk factors for heart disease and empower them to take steps to reduce their risks.
Friday, February 7 is National Wear Red Day®
Each year, on the first Friday in February, millions of women and men wear red to show their commitment and passion for fighting heart disease. Join us in supporting The Heart Truth’s awareness-to-action movement by wearing a favorite red dress, red shirt or red tie on February 7. Let’s turn America RED to shine a spotlight on heart disease in women!
