We Are Living HOPE
Carolyn Cook
"I love offering hope, encouragement, and compassion to our breast patients. Sometimes these patients receive bad news and are overwhelmed trying to take in everything. The opportunity to be there for them and their family members is such a blessing."

"I had gone for my annual gynecological and mammogram with Dr. Cindy Besson. As she was doing a breast exam she felt a small lump. She told me she thought we should do an ultrasound. Sure enough the ultrasound revealed a small lump in my right breast. She told me she wanted me to see a general surgeon for a consultation. This could not be happening to me. I was a healthy 49-year-old woman. I was running approximately 8-10 miles per week. I was in the best health I had ever been in."

"I received a call from Dr. Cindy Besson's office and her staff stated to me that I needed to see a surgeon immediately. She asked me which surgeon did I want to see. Without hesitation I requested Dr. Wayne Frei. I went to Dr. Frei’s office the next day. He showed me the X-rays and it looked like a “star burst” scattered all over my left breast."

"I was diagnosed at 32, six months after having my fifth child. I found the lump doing a self-breast exam and waited two weeks to have a mammogram. I went to the Women's LifeCare Diagnostic Services at Aiken Regional Medical Centers and had a mammogram. I had a biopsy and saw my surgeon the same day. The next day, I found out that I had cancer. When I first found out, I was terrified."
