Employment at ARMC

How do we describe ourselves?

Growing. Thriving. Leading the way in healthcare excellence. That’s the promise of Aiken Regional Medical Centers (ARMC). The hospital is owned and operated by a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), a King of Prussia, Pa.-based company that is one of the leading healthcare management companies in the nation. The dedication to excellence demonstrated at ARMC and UHS has been recognized in many ways. Just one example is The Alan B. Miller Building at the nearby USC Aiken School of Nursing, which was named for Alan B. Miller, the CEO and Chairman of UHS.

Aiken Regional Medical Centers has been ranked a top hospital in South Carolina by the Carolina Center for Medical Excellence for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia. There’s a very good reason the hospital continues to receive such accolades: over 900 skilled healthcare/support professionals, a medical staff of more than 120 multi-specialty physicians, and a team of 230 volunteers keep us going with their dedication to excellence. Its “100K Lives” campaign was so successful that Aiken Regional was named a “Mentor Hospital” to teach other facilities how to get such good results. It’s no wonder the residents of Aiken, Barnwell, and Edgefield counties named us the #1 and most caring hospital in the region. In fact, these same residents said ARMC not only has the finest nursing staff, but is also the best choice for emergency medical care, medical services, maternity, outpatient procedures and other services.

Aiken Regional Medical Centers performs more than 8,000 surgeries each year, delivers more than 1,100 babies annually and provides nearly 50 specialty services through its 230-bed acute care facility, behavioral healthcare hospital, and the Cancer Care Institute of Carolina.

mapA location that translates into an amazing lifestyle.

Ideal location: two-plus hours from Atlanta and two hours from both mountains and the beach. Green pastures. Attractive neighborhoods. Summer sports year ’round, which means you can play at any one of our 10 area golf courses any time you like. And, don’t forget: golf’s best-of-the-best—Augusta National, home of the Masters—is just 15 miles away!

Widely considered “a Community of Character,” Aiken is a diverse, charming city of 27,000— located between Augusta and Columbia. You’ll love it here. Hometown friendliness beats out long commutes (average time is under 22 minutes). Our educational system is excellent, and is consistently recognized as among the best in the state and nation. You’ll also find both two-year and four-year colleges within a five-minute drive. We can even brag about being below the national average in housing costs and cost-of-living index.

In Aiken, everyone always has something to do, whether you’re younger, older, single, or raising a family. World-class equestrian sports, year-round outdoor recreation, a rich cultural history, a vibrant arts community, picturesque hiking trails, and plentiful fishing make Aiken a great destination, and an even better place to live.

No matter how you say it, our service excellence sets us apart.

At Aiken Regional Medical Centers (ARMC), nothing is more important than service excellence. This focus is not just lip service…it’s our unique culture and our goal each and every day — which makes working here that much more rewarding. From the time you attend your first hospital orientation, you will learn what makes us different. You will learn how to interact with our customers. And, you will learn all about your role in helping ARMC achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients. You’re a vital member of our team, and we value your contributions greatly. You’ll be very proud to work here.

In fact, we’re also very proud of what we have achieved so far — including receiving the highly prestigious Universal Health Services Corporate Service Excellence Award, which each year recognizes the hospital that best demonstrates commitment to and improvement in service excellence.

Other measures of our success include the following accomplishments:

  • We exceed the national average for quality indicators that measure many areas of hospital performance.
  • We rank among the top 10% of US hospitals for teatment of heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia.
  • We were chosen as a mentor hospital by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

Measuring Excellence

ARMC is one of more than 3,000 hospitals nationwide that voluntarily joined the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s "100K Lives" Campaign and 5 Million Lives Campaign to save lives in US hospitals, by instituting better practices and improving quality.

We were also early participants in the Hospital Quality Alliance Measures initiative, which provides best practice guidelines for treating selected diagnoses to ensure a consistent level of care.
To further demonstrate our commitment to service excellence, we have re-educated 100 percent of our managers and associates through a highly innovative program called “Service Excellence — It Starts with Me.”

Nursing opportunities that definitely make a statement.

Aiken Regional Medical Centers (ARMC) understands the importance of investing in advanced treatments, new facilities, and the latest technology. But the most important investment we make is in our people.

Student Care Team Technicians
This is a great opportunity for students currently enrolled in a credentialed school of nursing program to gain paid experience in a hospital setting, performing duties similar to those of a CNA. All candidates, who must have already completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course, are hired on a per diem (PRN) basis, with flexible scheduling.

Student Nurse Externship Program
Senior students in ADN and BSN programs are able to enhance their skills and get paid, while working one-on-one with a licensed nurse in the delivery of patient care. Our flexible schedules, which revolve around school schedules, require a commitment of only 16-24 hours/month.

Nurse Internship Program
Employing a combination of powerful classroom and clinical experiences, graduate nurses can prepare to become medical/surgical or critical care staff nurses.

Online CEUs
Because education doesn’t end at graduation, ARMC provides a free online library, containing more than 1,000 continuing education articles.

Learning Management System
Allowing 24/7 access to online learning, and tracking skills and certifications, LMS helps nurses stay current with mandatory educational requirements.

Tuition Assistance Programs
Recognizing the importance of our associates’ professional growth, we encourage that growth through a number of valuable tuition assistance programs. Whether you are a student entering a nursing program, a new graduate, or an RN who wants to advance your education, we have just the right tuition program for you:

  • RN Scholarship Program pays up-front scholarship money for both part- and full-time employees who are enrolled in an accredited ADN or BSN program.
  • Tuition Payback Program reimburses new graduates accepting full-time positions for the tuition costs of their final year of nursing education.
  • Educational Reimbursement and Assistance Program reimburses RNs and LPNs who wish to continue their education.

If you have an interest in any of these programs, please contact Human Resources at 803-641-5630.
