Is Sleepiness Hurting You?

Dr MummaneniTake a look around and what do you see? The guy nodding off on the bus. A coworker snoozing during a dull presentation. People with heavy eyelids lined up at the coffee shop in the middle of the afternoon. Excessive sleepiness can have serious consequences. You could doze off while waiting at a red light, for example.  In addition, not getting enough good sleep has been associated with high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and weight gain. Dr. Mummaneni will discuss some of the reasons we may not be getting enough sleep, and offer some treatment for this serious problem.

Chronic Kidney Disease

Dr StahurExperts estimate that 20 million Americans have significantly reduced kidney function. Even a small loss of kidney function can double a person's risk of developing cardiovascular disease, and many of these people will experience heart attacks or strokes before they become aware of their kidney disease. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a silent condition and in its early stages, you may not notice any symptoms.  CKD often develops so slowly that many people don't realize they're sick until the disease is advanced and they must be hospitalized for life-saving dialysis. Getting early treatment for CKD can help prevent heart failure and help postpone kidney failure, so be sure to attend this important talk.
